Badgers Bottom by Simon Andrews

Inspired by his local miniature railway in Lackham, Wiltshire, England. Simons Badgers bottom layout is a very small layout. It fits into that most British of microlayout containers - a Boxfile. In Simons own words."The Idea is to model a miniature railway without all those pesky passengers. Therefore the area modelled will represent the rear of the engine shed / workshop and a stock come PW yard. I've used the engine shed as the view block. The rest of the world and fiddle area is off to the left."

The baseboard is made from a foamboard lamination and the sides faced with the stone walling form an integral part of the structure. you may well wonder how the trains are dealt with offstage and as you can see from the picture below Simon constructed a couple of train cassettes from foamboard as well.

Badgers bottom is a deceptively simple layout to look at. Yet with the pair of hidden cassettes for the fiddle yard can be quite the busy layout to operate.
